Scarlet is more than just a ‘choir for hire’. We’re an eight piece vocal octet, formed by friends from the Leicester choral circuit  in 2006. And, like the name, the sound just worked.  Amongst us are music teachers and semi professional musicians of varying ages, but the thing that unites us is our passion and ability.

We make no secret of our love for early music – Palestrina, Byrd and Tallis all feature in our repertoire – but we also have an extensive list of jazz, contemporary, opera, pop and rock pieces that are well within our range. And the great thing is, we rarely need backing, as most of our pieces are unaccompanied. Like the Swingle Singers, we use voices (generally our trustworthy basses, sorry boys!) to keep our pitch and rhythm. 

When you book Scarlet, you book a team that will help you get the best soundtrack to your occasion. At the start, you get me, the fair Chairlady, and Will, our illustrious Musical Director (a little eccentric, but you get used to him!), and we’ll meet up with you (sometimes we’ll even buy you a drink!) to discuss exactly what you want from the day. And whatever you want, we will try and provide. We are always up for learning new tricks, and never shy away from a challenge!

Which is probably why we have such varied experiences as a group! So far we’ve taken on a lot of weddings, some charity events, (including a Leicester Tigers’ dinner), a couple of appearances on local radio, and weekends of services at Bath Abbey and Wells Cathedral. And after a gig, we love nothing more than going to the nearest pub for a meal, or out for afternoon tea together!
